Rotting Carcass of Master Terrorist Yasser Arafat Is Exhumed
(Reuters) - The body of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was exhumed on Tuesday by a team of international experts trying to discover if he was poisoned, as many Palestinians believe.
French magistrates opened a murder inquiry in August into Arafat's death in Paris after a Swiss institute said it had discovered high levels of radioactive polonium on his clothing, which was supplied by his widow, Suha.
Arafat, who led the Palestinians' bid for a state through years of war and peacemaking, died in Paris aged 75 in 2004 after a short, mysterious illness.
No autopsy was carried out at the time, at the request of Suha, and French doctors who treated him said they were unable to determine the cause of death.
But allegations of foul play immediately surfaced, with many locals pointing the finger at Israel, which confined Arafat to his West Bank headquarters in Ramallah for the final two and a half years of his life after a Palestinian uprising erupted.
Israel has denied any wrongdoing, inviting the Palestinian leadership to release all his medical records, which were never made public following his death.

"He believes that comprehensive
immigration reform is achievable ... because there has been in the past
bipartisan support for immigration reform," Carney said. "And he thinks
it's important not just for specific communities that would be affected
by it, but for the American economy."
The spokesman said the immigration issue "might come up" when Obama meets Tuesday with Mexico's president-elect.

Husband Arrested In Bogus "Anti-Muslim Hate Crime" Murder of Wife

EL CAJON, Calif. (AP) -- Police on Friday announced the arrest of the husband of an
Iraqi-American woman whose beating death last March initially raised
fears of a hate crime.
Kassim al-Himidi was
booked on suspicion of murder in the death of 32-year-old Shaima Alawadi
in her home, El Cajon police Chief Jim Redman told a news conference.
The
killing drew international attention after the victim's daughter told
reporters she found a note by her mother's body that said, "Go back to
your country, you terrorist."
Redman said there are no other suspects.

Iraqi Immigrants in California Town Fear a Hate Crime in a Woman’s Killing
EL CAJON, Calif. (NY Times) — Shaima Alawadi’s family says they found the first note taped to the front door of their house on a quiet suburban street here. It said: “This is my country. Go back to yours, terrorist,” according to her 15-year-old son, Mohammed.
Ms. Alawadi’s husband, Kassim Alhimidi, says he wanted to call the
police. But his wife said no, insisting the note was only a child’s
prank. Like many others in the neighborhood, the couple were immigrants
from Iraq. In 17 years in the United States, they had been called
terrorists before, he said.
But last Wednesday, Ms. Alawadi was found in the family’s dining room by
her 17-year-daughter, lying unconscious in a puddle of blood with a
severe head wound. Nearby lay another threatening note, similar to the
one the family found a week earlier.
Ms. Alawadi, 32, died three days later. The police caution against
jumping to conclusions, saying they are still trying to determine
whether she was targeted because of her religion or ethnicity, calling
that just one possibility.
“At this point, we are not calling it a hate crime,” said Lt. Mark Coit
of the El Cajon police. “We haven’t made that determination. We are
calling it an isolated incident, because we don’t have any evidence of
anything similar going on at this point.”
Whatever the police eventually determine, the crime has shattered the
sense of security for Iraqi immigrants in El Cajon, exposing cultural
tensions and distrust that have often simmered just below the surface
since the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.
Hanif Mohebi, director of the San Diego chapter of the Council on
American-Islamic Relations, said that many Muslim women in the area were
worried that Ms. Alawadi had been targeted because she wore a headscarf
in public, as many observant Muslim women do.
“The majority of the community that wears scarves are concerned,” Mr.
Mohebi said. He cautioned against a rush to judgment before the police
had finished investigating. Still, he added, “the community has gone
through some hate crimes before, and the assumption the people have is
that they’re going through one now.”

The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood feels that the only foreign policy
change Obama can bring is by “accepting the will of the Arab people.”
“We must rely on ourselves and on our resources and build our country,” Issam Al-Aryan, a top Muslim Brotherhood official, said, according to The Times of Israel.
“In the absence of direct American influence, Egypt can affect and lead the process of building a democratic and constitutional regime that will become a dream for African and the southern hemisphere.”
Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood wants to make Shariah Law the main source of the country’s new constitution.
Terror group Hamas is calling for Obama not to be “biased” toward Israeli interests during his second term.

Obama Denies Lying About Benghazi: "I've Always Been Straight With the American People"

Speaking to Smerconish during a 15-minute Oval Office interview,
Obama also declared he was "absolutely" prepared to kill those behind
the assault but would prefer to capture them and "bring them to
justice."
Asked whether the Administration's shifting explanation for the September 11th
strike reflected the intelligence he was receiving, Obama replied:
"What's true is that the intelligence was coming in and evolving as more
information came up.
"And what is true," he continued,
"...This is something that the American people can take to the bank --
is that my administration plays this stuff straight. We don't play
politics when it comes to American national security," the president
said. "As information came in we gave it to the American people. And as
we got new information, we gave that to the American people."
When and if the location of those
behind the attack is known, Smerconish asked, "Will you take that
person out without regard for the election timetable?"
"Absolutely," Obama replied. "But I think our goal would be to bring them to justice."
Questions have arisen about Obama's response to the "Arab Spring" occurring in countries across the broader Middle East. State Department officials have acknowledged turning down requests for more security in Libya. And Republicans have questioned the president's truthfulness after the administration spent days, they say, blaming the assault on reaction to an Internet film that ridicules Islam.
Yahoo News reported in late September American officials had concluded on "Day One" that terrorists were behind the siege. But The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Obama's "presidential daily brief" from the CIA tied the assault to on a spontaneous protest linked to the video — despite intelligence contradicting that scenario.
Asked whether he knew Americans
in Libya had asked for more security, Obama replied: "I was not
personally aware of any request. Obviously we have an infrastructure
that's set up to manage requests like that," in reference to the State
Department.
"But we're going to find out
exactly what happens," he said. "Ultimately, though, any time there is a
death of an American overseas, I want to find out what happened,
because my most important job as president is keeping the American
people safe."
"And we will get to the bottom of
what happened, and we're going to make sure most importantly that those
who carried it out, that they are captured," Obama said.
He also said he takes "full
responsibility" for the circumstances in the attack, in which Ambassador
Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed.
The suspects have
not been publicly or conclusively identified, though Egyptian officials
say a man suspected to have been involved was killed Wednesday in a
shootout in the capital, Cairo.
"My biggest priority right now is
bringing those folks to justice. And I think the American people have
seen that's a commitment I always keep," the president said, an apparent
reference to the bin Laden raid.
